  1. Design system folk, I have a question: how do you track how your design system (positively) impacts speed of delivery for the teams it serves?
  2. I wrote a weeknote. After 2.5 years. markboulton.co.uk/journal/weeknote-37/
  3. So, impressions of not being on here for a good six months and then coming back for a couple of days: • My timeline is ~50% ads and people I don't follow • Still the click-bait • I do miss some folks who aren't on Mastodon • Content is more varied here than Mastodon
  4. Coming back on here for a look around during the Tory annual conference was probably a very bad idea.
  5. I'll try that again without typos. So, I'm back here again. What have I missed?
  6. Knock knock. Hello? So… can I do this 599 times more now and that’s it?
  7. anyone have a Bluesky invite I could have? Before this place finally explodes.
  8. Posting here again to keep the old profile alive. Might need it one day. In the meantime, I’m over on that other place. It’s nice over there. Nobody is yelling.
  9. A quick tweet to say nothing so my account doesn’t be suspended for inactivity.
  10. Let’s see if this sticks this time. I’m over on the ‘don. mastodon.social/@markboulton
  11. I learnt something yesterday that blew my mind a little. Different types of fish are not related species. Just like some things that live on land are not related. A cod is not related to a tuna. Nor a weever fish to a batfish. Ah, it's the simple pleasures.
  12. Twitter has been a part of my professional life for so long. Yes, my engagement has waned, but I’ve met so many friends here. Feeling pretty sad for what we’ve lost.
  13. I am very sad about what is happening to Twitter. So much of my professional life has been inside these walls. But, that has been at the expense of my own walls (these are, after all, someone else's). Back to my blog, it is then.
  14. I need a recommendation on a note-taking app. Apple notes is ok, but I struggle with organisation and it lacks any kind of integration possibilities. It'd be nice to integrate notes with Google calendar (not Docs - again, organisation problems). Any good contenders out there?
  15. At my parents house for a couple of days and it's so quiet my Airpod's are generating noise to then cancel out. It's like they want to be busy.

Popular:

  1. I’m still flabbergasted at how many orgs require you to be in an office every day and then you sit there with headphones on not speaking.
  2. Every web designer should spend an evening in the pub with a designer from another industry.
  3. 'Move fast and break things'. Nope. Don't. How about: 'Slow down and show some responsibility'. Admittedly, as slogans go, it's not really t-shirt material.
  4. As of today, you can download my book for free: designingfortheweb.co.uk
  5. ‘Teach kids to code’. How about: ‘teach kids to design’. Art and design is on the decline. Especially in education. Shall we fix that?
  6. You can still make great looking accessible and usable web pages with simple HTML and basic CSS. You know that, right? No javascript. No web fonts. No Grid, or Flexbox. Just get the basics right: good typography, great content. Design for the medium not against it.
