@eleven_ty Yes thanks! I got it figured out by following @heydonworks's suggestion. Caching the file in '_data', and then grabbing it with the front matter. There might well be a more elegant way to do it. Oh, and I was tying myself in knots with Nunjucks 'for' loops, too.
