  1. I see a lot of experimentation with new CSS (v units, grid, etc) trying to recreate the 'freedom' there is with print. Ask any print designer, though, and the first thing to consider is imposing structure and constraints. Not every blank sheet of paper becomes a poster.

Most of my typography degree – and a good few years of my early design career – were designing very tightly constrained printed matter: catalogues, books, encyclopaedia, prospectus. No posters. No freeform crazy design. Structure, constraints, discipline.

But, that said, exciting things happen when designers of both disciplines work together. The processes of graphic design for print can only enrich those for digital imo.

The three most challenging typographic design things I had to work on: 1. Bus timetables 2. Medicine leaflets 3. A plumbing catalogue All three were about fitting as much information as possible on a single sheet of paper with good typographic access structure & legibility.

That plumbing catalogue, though. Weeks of drawing clipping paths over every type of pipe, nubbin, flange, and wotsit. If you need some bezier curves drawing, I'm your man.

Yeah... probably something about lawns, and yelling at clouds. Old designer yelling. Yeah, yeah.
