        1. Be very wary of those saying that every designer should write case studies for their portfolio in order get hired. Not the case. Show your work. Demonstrate your talent. Get a foot in the door, and have a conversation.

My parting thought... Writing case studies, articulating your decisions, explaining your processes are great. Very valuable. But also rational, logical, and sellable. But talent often doesn't work that way. Talented designers often cannot really articulate design decisions.

Sure, you can talk about methods, and strategy, and all that stuff. But, ask a talented designer *why* they arrived at a particular solution they will tell you what they think they want you to hear. The real process is more subconscious. More feel.

It's similar to artists, and chefs, or photographers. It's not magic, or designer bullshit, but an experienced, well-developed visual sense. In young designers, it's still there, but raw and untapped and they are much less likely to explain things rationally.

Therefore, asking for a case study is a challenge and not a particularly inclusive requirement. The sad thing is, it discards those early in their career, and often the most talented, because the 'muscles of articulation' are not developed. And may never be.
