Been thinking about design leadership (again!), and how by applying the systems, processes, and thinking of our design craft to ourselves might not have the best outcome. As a community, we do this. We conform. We systemise and templatise – as a way of addressing scale etc.

But, in doing so, we are packaging up a version of ourselves. A version that doesn't acknowledge the diversity of organisations we inhabit. If we continually tell ourselves 'this is what design leadership looks like', then that's what it will be everywhere.

And that is a massive problem when considering diversity of organisation and global culture. Navigating the difference between 'design leader in the US' vs 'design leader in Europe' can be a minefield for everyone.
