        1. After interviewing *lots* of designers earlier this year, this is not an uncommon position. My feeling is this is a big switch in mental model.         And, whilst this is very comfortable for type designers  – who have been working in a design space mental model their entire careers – this is a big jump for the rest of us. Demonstrating variable font's value by boingy animations is doing them a massive disservice.

      My advice would be to use a really good variable font for a couple of months. Exclusively if you can. At first, you will probably default to the pre-defined weights (called instances), but after a while, you will start to explore and use the space in-between them.
