  1. Saw a thing in a PDF this morning (a typesetting guide) and thought 'Gah, why isn't this HTML!?'. Outside of our little bubble on here, control of content, design, and simple ease of use of publishing for PDFs is still very much alive and well.

      There are also advantages of PDFs for archiving purposes. I'd even say better than HTML. The reality is that URLs, services, just *stuff* disappears. Links rot. Browsers deprecate elements. Things move on. PDFs just stay there. Great for archiving for decades.

        HTML *could* be like that. I mean, just look at info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html. The sad reality is, though, it often isn't.
