  1. New Sourdough bakers. I got these for Christmas, and they have transformed my loaves. Can't recommend them enough: – A cast iron Dutch Oven. This is the thing.       The book is especially good. Most of it is the science behind the method, alternatives ways of doing things, things I was missing (like temp monitoring), and there are a few formulas to work from. It's so good.
