@ScottKellum My concern with business managers managing design teams is two fold: 1. The democratisation of quality. Most design teams are not empowered to do this. 2. Managing down, and empowering, could be fine. It’s the managing up and sideways that concerns me.Permalink On twitter.com

@ScottKellum And, I think on that first point, when a business manager is defining design strategy (along with Product and Engineering), and they aren’t a designer, you can end up with a big design disconnect. @ScottKellum In my view, bold design strategy requires opinionated design leadership (with a capital D), not just people management. Yes, you have to bring people along – and all that comes with it – but many principal designers are not placed in this strategic position.Permalink On twitter.com
