Had some light-bulb moments today whilst noodling on why design handover is hard (and getting harder). Some thoughts: 1. Work is being done increasingly async from one-another on a team. Either through remote working, async priorities across a team, and conflicting needs.
-
To mitigate 1… 2. Verbose, comprehensive documentation (design systems et al) exist to reduce synchronous conversations that can’t scale. Work is async thrown back and forth over walls.
-
3. Our assumption this is because of a disconnect between eng and design habits, culture, work streams etc. But, in reality, maybe it’s an issue of async and sync.
-
Which is a tricky problem. Not enough people to work synchronously on all things all the time.
