Hypothesis. Extensive written, story-based design portfolios are bias to those who are good writers, have access to outcomes, and with the technical means to publish them. That’s not an inclusive expectation.

And… purely visual design portfolios with no context is bias towards those who have excellent graphic design craft, and to sell design with sharp, well-executed mockups. That’s not an inclusive expectation.

And *that* is the problem with UX/UI as a functional job title. The expectations are broken from the moment you try to get your foot in the door. If it must be used, make sure the continuum on which the role sits is clearly communicated to prospective candidates.
